FCA International Participates with four ASTM main committees and multiple sub-committees and workgroups on behalf of our contractors. Below is a list of the ASTM committees and a few of the standards and workgroups with changes in the last few months. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns regarding any of the ASTM standards or workgroups.
C11 Committee on Gypsum and Related Building Materials and Systems
Committee C11.02 – Workgroup 60330
WK60330 – New Test Method for Impact Testing of Gypsum Board outside 90 Corner Systems. Review and development of Proposed New Standard Test Method on Impact Testing of Corners. This standard is under development. This work item continues to progress through the review and approval process. The workgroup reviews and carefully discusses each part of the proposed testing standard.
C842 – Standard Specification for Application of Interior Gypsum Plaster has been reapproved and is available as C842-05. This specification covers the minimum requirements for full-thickness interior gypsum plastering on gypsum, metal, masonry, or monolithic concrete bases designed or prepared to receive gypsum plaster.
D01 Committee on Paint and Related Coatings, Materials, and Applications
WK76055 – Standard Test Method for Film Hardness by Pencil Test is a work item revision to review existing standard D3363-20.
WK76061 – Standard Test Method for Mar Resistance of Organic Coatings is a work item revision to review existing standard D5178-16.
WK76391 – Standard Test Method for Pull-Off Adhesion Strength of Coatings on Concrete Using Portable Pull-Off Adhesion Testers is a work item revision to existing standard D7234-19. Under review, to address numerous comments, clarifications, and corrections to document.
E06 Performance of Buildings – Other Standards in Review Process
E3118/E3118M – Standard Test Methods to Evaluate Seismic Performance of Suspended Ceiling Systems by Full-Scale Dynamic Testing has been revised to E3118/E3118M-21. These test methods help evaluate the performance of a full-scale suspended ceiling system during a seismic event using a dynamic seismic simulator (shake table).
WK76818 – Standard Practice for Application of Sprayed Fire-Resistive Materials (SFRMs) is a work item revision to existing standard E1513/E1513M-93. This revision will ensure that all possible steps are taken to identify the existing sprayed fire resistive materials and correctly patching them in accordance with original guidelines prior to determining alternate methods of patching.
WK76701 – Standard Test Methods for Thickness and Density of Sprayed Fire-Resistive Material (SFRM) Applied to Structural Members is a work item revision to existing standard E605/E605M-19.
E1857 – Standard Guide for Selection of Cleaning Techniques for Masonry, Concrete, and Stucco Surfaces has been reapproved, available as E1857-97. This guide covers procedures for the selection and assessment of cleaning techniques for removing soiling and staining from masonry, concrete, and stucco surfaces. Removal of paints, coatings, and graffiti may require measures beyond the scope of this guide. New construction is excluded from the scope of this guide.
E2178 – Standard Test Method for Determining Air Leakage Rate and Calculation of Air Permeance of Building Materials has been revised to E2178-21a. This test method is to determine the air leakage rate of building materials at various pressure differentials with the intent of calculating an assigned air permeance rate of the material at the reference pressure difference (ΔP) of 75 Pa.
WK76588 – Standard Test Method for Field Determination of Water Penetration of Installed Exterior Windows, Skylights, Doors, and Curtain Walls, by Uniform or Cyclic Static Air Pressure Difference is a work item revision to review existing standard E1105-15.
WK76436 – Standard Practice for Design and Performance of Supported Laminated Glass Walkways is a work item revision to existing standard E2751/E2751M-17a. Update and review of standard.**Note: At this point the ASTM committees, subcommittees and workgroups are meeting virtually. The committee chairs have expressed hope of returning to face to face meetings in the fa
